The Story of REC
The Riverside Educational Center is a collaboration with community partners which provides after-school tutoring and extracurricular activities for qualifying Mesa County students to improve academic achievement and foster positive social and emotional development.
After School Tutoring
K-12 Tutoring at 10 Locations
The Riverside Educational Center (REC) offers after-school tutoring five days per week in 14-week blocks in the Fall and Spring semesters. Tutoring focuses on assistance with homework assignments followed by activities to develop reading, writing and math skills.
Enrichment
REC offers high quality and engaging STEAM-based enrichment activities both on- and offsite. Activities are designed to expose REC students to new experiences and develop new skills.
Summer Program
A 3-week Summer Program is available for 3 days per week in June.
Programming includes some basic skill work, though most activities are provided by REC’s collaborating partners. Activities include swimming, hiking, biking, visits to museums and service learning projects.
Creating Community
REC strives to create a safe and supportive community for our students.
Family events and parent trainings encourage parents and siblings to participate in our students’ growth.
Service-learning opportunities give our students a chance to learn about themselves and their immediate family and learning circles while connecting with the broader Grand Valley community.
