The Story of REC
The Riverside Educational Center provides structured tutoring and diverse extracurricular activities in the after-school hours for students in grades K-12 in order to improve academic achievement and foster positive social and emotional development in a safe and supportive environment.

After-School Tutoring
Tutoring at 16 Sites (Grades K-12)
The Riverside Educational Center (REC) offers after-school tutoring five days per week in 14-week blocks in the fall and spring semesters. Tutoring focuses on assistance with homework assignments followed by activities to develop reading, writing, and math skills.
Creating Community
REC strives to create a safe and supportive community for students.
Family events and parent trainings encourage parents and siblings to participate in our students’ growth.
Service-learning opportunities give our students a chance to learn about themselves while connecting with the broader Grand Valley community.
Enrichment
REC offers high quality and engaging STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics)-based enrichment activities both on- and off-site. Activities are designed to expose REC students to new experiences and develop new skills.

Summer Program
A two-week Summer Program is available in June.
Programming includes basic skill work and activities provided by REC’s community partners, including swimming, hiking, biking, visits to museums, and service-learning projects.
